FAQ

Which materials do you use for your projects?

My models are made with acrylic glass, wood and metal plates.

Acrylic glass, or PMMA (poly-methyl-methacrylate), is a beautiful, versatile material commercialized since the 1930s with different brand names – Perspex – Plexiglas – Lucite – etc. Due to its superior physical properties PMMA is used in many applications – from the aerospace industry to biomedical research, from solar panels to furniture production. Nevertheless, acrylic glass should be employed with care to avoid becoming an environmental threat: like normal glass it can be easily collected and recycled, instead of ending as landfill. I select veneered wood, consisting of a formaldehyde-free fiber board core with real wood laminated on either side: this is a sustainable material designed specifically for laser processing. I normally work with cherry, maple and oak veneer. I also recut and reuse solid planks of various woods.

For my embroideries I use high quality mercerised cotton yarn in various thicknesses and colours. Cotton yarn is a soft but strong material, available in a wide variety of colours matching beautifully either wood or acrylic glass.

How do I install these models?

My smaller works come either framed or with a sawtooth attachment or small holes for a hanging string. Nevertheless, a custom made frame would make them look fabulous and would protected from accidents and dirt. The larger works come unframed to save in shipping cost and they need to be professionally framed.

Can I order a custom work?

Of course, I love taking commissions. Commissions allow for larger and/or better integrated pieces and are often very satisfying projects for both parties. Contact me directly if you have something in mind! And you can check reviews of some of my sold pieces here

Do you consider the sustainability of your work?

Yes, sustainability is always on my mind. I strive to minimize the environmental footprint of every step of my production:

– I select high quality recyclable PMMA and plantation plywood. When possible I use industrially recycled PMMA.

– I love to design in small scale. We often think big is better, forgetting that size is a crucial factor in the environmental footprint of the goods we own. My goal is to inject a lot of thought, care and value in a relatively small object. Small but precious!

– I create all my test models in cardboard

– My production waste is minimal and entirely taken to a recycling facility

– My laser machine is powered by solar panels

– I aim to design durable artefacts which can be enjoyed for many years.
